Zurich/Dübendorf, August 25th, 2025

CSA and Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich have entered into a strategic MoU with the University of Florida and its space research institutes. The agreement expands collaboration in in-space manufacturing, life sciences, workforce development, and policy—building new bridges between Europe and the U.S. space ecosystem.

Cornerstone Set: New Memorandum of Understanding Between CSA, Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich, and the University of Florida

The Center for Space and Aviation Switzerland and Liechtenstein (CSA) and the Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Florida, together with its Astraeus Space Institute, the In-Space Biomanufacturing Innovation Hub (In-Space Bio Hub), and the Center for Science, Technology and Advanced Research in Space (C-STARS).Building on the earlier MoU with Space Florida, this new agreement expands transatlantic cooperation and covers the full spectrum of Florida’s dynamic space ecosystem—from established institutions to emerging initiatives.

Scope of collaboration includes:
- In-space manufacturing and advanced aerospace technologies
- Space life sciences, human health, and biomanufacturing
- Technology transfer and commercialization
- Workforce development and education
- Policy, economics, and regulatory frameworks

Planned activities range from joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, and academic programs to symposia, innovation initiatives, and shared access to testing and flight facilities such as parabolic flights. These efforts aim to accelerate discoveries and commercial applications both in space and on Earth.

Elisabeth Stark, member of the CSA board of trustees, highlighted the spirit of the collaboration: “What makes this partnership exceptional is not only our shared goals, but how naturally our institutions fit together, with each partner bringing specific strengths that enrich the whole. The CSA and the University of Florida share a clear strategic vision: to build globally relevant space ecosystems that are both locally rooted and internationally connected. This agreement is an important step in realizing that vision.”This partnership strengthens the global space research ecosystem, builds bridges between academia and industry, and opens new opportunities for education, innovation, and economic growth.
